Abstract
Expansive Soil Possesses High Plasticity, And Shrinkage & Swelling Characteristics That Varies With Moisture Content. When Used For Construction, Expansive Soil Poses A Problem Due To This Characteristics. The Recent Advancement In Geotechnical Engineering Is The Use Of Additives That Could Avoid Or Reduce This Situations. Besides, When Exposed To Dynamic Excitations, Expansive Soil Losses The Small Shear Strength It Poses And Causes Additional Problem. The Properties Of The Soil Related To Dynamic Excitation Are Known As Dynamic Soil Properties. In This Study, Experimental Program Were Conducted Using Cyclic Simple Shear Test To Better Understand The Dynamic Properties Of Expansive Soil Treated With Sugarcane Bagasse Ash (Scba). The Influencing Factors, Including Strain Amplitude, Confining Pressure, Cycle Number And The Effect Of Scba Treatment On The Dynamic Properties Were Discussed. The Analysis Results Showed That Scba Considerably Reduces The Plasticity Characteristics Of The Soil And Increases The Unconfined Compressive Strength (Ucs) Up To 9% Addition By Dry Mass. The Addition Of Scba Not Only Improves The Plasticity And Ucs But Also Increases The Dynamic Shear Modulus And The Damping Ratio. It Is Also Observed That Dynamic Shear Modulus Increases With Increment Of Confining Pressure; While It Decreases For The Increase In Number Of Cycles And Strain. In The Case Of Damping Ratio, It Decreases With Number Of Cycles. However, It Increases With Confining Pressure And Shear Strain Rate.
