Abstract

Improving livelihood is an asset to any poor society and as a result, effects of micro finance and improving livelihood has become an issue that has to face our society specially women who are without assets. This study, therefore, as conducted to assess the effects of micro finance in improving the livelihoods of women in four rural kebels of JelduWoreda. Methodologically, the research approach is both quantitative and qualitative. The study was “descriptive and an explanatory” in nature and thus the researcher was used to test explanatory hypotheses which aimed at establishing the effect of microfinance in improving the livelihood of women , where the population of the study is the women who access micro credit come from the area of four rural kebels of Jeldu Woreda. The sampling method is probability and specifically stratified random sampling and non probability and specifically purposive sampling. The data were collected using structured questionnaires and (FGD) of six to twelve group members of women. The researcher used both descriptive and inferential statistics specifically mean, standards deviation, Pearson correlation and multiple regressions. The result of Pearson correlation revealed that micro credit has positive and significant relationship with improving livelihood of women in four rural kebels of JelduWoreda. Furthermore, the results of regression analysis also indicated that the micro credit has positive and significant effect on improving livelihood of women in the study area. It was found that micro credit has higher effect on improving livelihood of women than training and micro savings. Finding of this study showed that providing microcredit for women is positively and significantly related to micro finance saving and training to improving the livelihood of women. It is better to emphasize on micro credit services to enhance the improvement of livelihood of women.
