Abstract
Supply chain has become a fundamental element in the construction industry to improve the
efficiency and productivity in recent decades. The purpose of this research is to investigate the
factors affecting construction material supply chain and their impact on building construction
projects performance in Ethiopian construction works corporation is undertaking the
construction of 5000 houses around kaliti neighborhood of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. A
comprehensive literature review was carried out to identify specifically concerned not only
challenge factors and their impact severity on performance but also performance of
construction material supply chain and building projects improving options. To achieve the
intended objectives mixed design method is used. Thus, 68 questionnaires were distributed to
engineers working in ECWC and Addis Ababa housing development center, contractors and
sub-contractors. Relative importance index (RII) and Spearman's Rank Correlation Coefficient
of concordance analysis techniques were applied by using MS Excel and SPSS V-26. Analysis
result has revealed that the top five main factor affecting the performance of CMSC in BCS are
stemmed: planning, management, finance, supplier, and storage and handling clusters are
identified as critical factors. On other hand, the supplier and the contractor sides are the first
and the second main factor affecting the performance of MSC in BCS respectively. Also, results
unearthed that the major impact that influences building construction project performance on
quality is as severe as high. Specifically, impact that influences building construction project
performance is very high on quality with 0.844 RII results. Furthermore, from study results:
effective supply chain management leadership, supply chain analytics, innovation, and
knowledge sharing and risk management strategies are the main strategies for improving
material supply chain process in building sector the construction environment respectively.
Therefore, to come up for a deep and detailed academic and practical (by corporation) research
of the improvement process in construction supply chain proves to be necessary in order to
orient research developments on this topic
