A higher data rate and ultra-reliable along with low latency are the requirement of the 5G (fifth generation) communication system due to enhanced mobile broad band, massive machine type communication. Although OFDM (Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) waveform is used by 4G (fourth Generation) which is not able to achieve these requirement of the 5G due to side band leakage, high peak to average power ratio (PAPR) and low spectrum utilization. A higher-order modulation technique can increase the data rate but the problem is interference. The interference can be reduced by filtering methods such as matched filtering. So the first part of this work will be focused on the implementation of a filtering operation on the communication system which is using Higher-order QAM. The second phase of this work is the implementation of Higher-order QAM on new generation waveform such as OFDM, Filtered OFDM (F-OFDM), Filter Bank Multicarrier (FBMC), and Universal Filter Multi Carrier (UFMC). In this work, three performance metrics such as spectrum efficiency, PAPR and Bit Error Rate (BER) were studied. The rigorous simulation results show that UFMC provides higher spectrum efficiency due to Sub band filtering compared to other considered waveforms. It has the lead of lowering barriers between sub bands while simultaneously shortening the filter length, making it ideal for brief bursts. In addition to spectrum efficiency, UFMC also provide a slightly better BER and PAPR value (0.003, 0, 0……. and 6.227) compared to F-OFDM (0.1125, 0, 0 ... and 8.894334 and FBMC (0.039094, 0.004732, 0 ... and 7.759556) at SNR >= 25dB for 1024 –QAM .en_US
