Abstract
Shelter Has Been A Crucial And Basic Need For Human Beings Since The Beginning Of Civilization. Urban Land And Houses Are In High Demand, And Demand Is Growing Much Faster Than Official Accessibility. Unless Significant Action Is Taken, The Population Resident In Settlements Will Keep Growing, Endangering The Possibility Of Achieving Internationally Agreed Goals. Therefore, This Study Aims To Assess The Housing Challenges And Demand In Adama City. It Explores The Factors That Limit Housing Provision And Suggests Alternative Housing Options. The Research Used A Descriptive Survey Method to Assess the Current Housing Demand and Land Provision Challenges. Data From 376 Sample Household Members Of The Housing Union Applicants Was Analyzed Using Descriptive Statistics, Including Percentages, Frequencies, And Bar Graphs. SPSS Was Used For The Data Analysis. The Findings Revealed That The Lack Of Housing Supply Is A Significant Challenge For City Residents. The Average Family Size Of Respondents Was Three, And They Faced Difficulties In Constructing Residences Due To Their Low Income In Comparison To The Average House Rent. Additionally, Majority Of Residents Identified Were Unable To Obtain Land For Housing For More Than Five Years Due To The Expensive Cost Of Land For Housing And A Lack Of Government Attention To Providing Land. As A Result, The Majority Of Residents Were Forced To Rent Residential Units, However They Found Dissatisfied With Their Current Rented Private Houses And Similarly With The Adequacy Of Their Rented Houses. The Study Found That 88.8% Of The Respondents Found It Challenging To Find Other Housing Options In The City Due To Factors Such As Insufficient Open Space For Housing, Inadequate Compensation Payments, And The Inefficiency Of Local Governments In Providing Solutions. The Study Recommends That Responsible Bodies To Focus On Increasing Housing Provision Through Implementing Affordable Housing Programs, Evaluating Existing Land Policies, Revising Compensation Payments, And Developing Innovative Strategies To Reduce Building Costs .
