Challenges and Opportunities of Urban Design Implementation in Addis Ababa, The Case of Basha Wolde Chilot

Abstract

Addis Ababa Is The Capital City Of Ethiopia And The Most Important Historical City Which Has Paid Currently Considerable Attention To Urban Design. The Practice Has Grown Over Time, With Highly Challenging Implementation Practices. It Has A Young Age Practiced In The Last Ten Years To Prepare Urban Design And Implement With Various Problems In Its History, One Decade But More Than Six Decades In The World. The Government System Of Different Political Ideologies, The Education And Land Use Policies Influence Its Preparation And Implementation. The Consideration Of This Thesis Would Be To Identify Urban Design Implementation Challenges As Well As The Opportunities Through An Assessment Of Basha Wolde Chilot Implemented Design Using A Mixed-Method. The Main Urban Design Implementation Challenges Are Urban Land Use Policy, Intervention, Lack Of Implementation Strategy, Lack Of Skilled Man Power, Top-Down Decision, Stakeholders?�? Interest, Timely Reshuffling Of Office, And Turnover Of Leadership. To Achieve A More Meaningful And Successful Implementation Of Urban Design In The Future, The City Government Has Taken Some Concrete Steps To Address All Of These Deep-Rooted Issues Such As A Strong Emphasis On Policy, Joining Forces Of Higher Education To Work On Urban Design With A Government, Setup The Urban Design Preparation And Implementation Institution Under The Urban Planning Structure To Lead The Institution Under The Supervision Of Knowledgeable Leadership Professionals And Competent Leaders Are All Necessary.
