Abstract
Today every business organization operates in turbulent environment. Due to this fact; business
managers have big challenges in using resources effectively and efficiently for business success.
One of the resources is Human resource and the success can be possible through proper
application of HRM practices. In light of this, the paper is designed to assess the HRM practice
of Awash marble processing plant. It is believed to be significant for the company to look at its
problem and take corrective measure. And it provides basic knowledge for companies in the
industry.
Descriptive Case study type of research design was used. The sampling method used was
purposive using human resource management staff and HR manager of the company as a
respondent to the study (36 HRM staffs and 1 HR manager). The data is collected through
questionnaire and interview questions and analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively using
frequency percentage, weighted mean and statement.
The finding of this study shows that the company gives priority to internal recruitment, the most
cost efficient sources of recruitment is considered and aligned the recruitment process with the
HR planning. performance based reward which has clear procedure that all employees
understand, exists great consideration of the reward system as part of the broad HRM system,
clear goal, well designed, extensive training, and need assessment for training is made. There is
reasonable, quantifiable and good performance measurement as well as proper documentation
of employee appraisal and continuous feedback. However, company has problems in involving
employee in the design of its reward plan, evaluating training effectiveness, using non financial
reward.
