Tungsten Inert Gas welding is also known as Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), is an advanced arc welding process which become a popular choice when a high level of weld quality or considerable precision welding is required. Other arc welding processes have limited quality when they are compared to TIG welding processes. The choice process depends on several factors; such as the compositional range of the material to be welded, thickness of the base materials and type of current. To improve welding quality of stainless steel plate speed control set up has been developed during welding process. Various welding tests have been carried out to optimise best combination of process parameters in practice. Effect of welding speed and welding current on the tensile strength of the weld joint has been investigated. Optical microscopic analysis has been done on the weld zone to evaluate the effect of welding parameters on welding quality. Micro-hardness value of the welded zone has been measured at the cross section to understand the change in mechanical property of the welded zone. The results of the TIG welding process show that, maximum depth of penetration was obtained with parametric combination of minimum welding speed and maximum current. Hardness value of the weld zone change with the distance from weld centre due to change of microstructure. At lower welding speeds and high welding current strength is more due to more intensity of current.en_US
