Abstract
This Thesis Presents A Geospatial Technologies Tools As A Helpful Tool In Optimum Site Selection For Cellular Networks And Modeling. It Shows How GIS Can Reveal Features Through Its Visualization Capabilities. Cell Phone Subscribers Is Increasing Use Of Cell Phones In Both Urban And Rural Areas. Accurately Locating Base Stations Is Vital To The Quality Of The Cellular Service Communication System And To Satisfying The Demand Of Clients, Which Different In Areas. The Cellular Network Tower (Bts) Placement Is Key Factor That Causes Disappearing Of Cellular Service From Areas. In Munesa Wereda Also There Are Several External Factors Affect The Quality And Strength Of A Signal, Including Slope, Altitude, Obstruction And Distance To A Cell Tower. Identifying The Optimum Locations For A New Cellular Sites Of Base Stations Capacity, Required Signal Quality, And Satisfactory Demand Coverage, Is A Challenge, Especially In Rural Areas. Many Important Factors Must Be Considered When Determining The Optimum Location Of New Cell Phone Towers. Towers Must Be Placed In Such A Way That They Reach The Most People, While Trying To Avoid Unnecessary Overlap With Already Well Covered Areas. This Study Aims To Evaluate The Optimum Location Of The Cellular Network Sites In Addition To Analyze Vulnerability Due To Electromagnetic Radiation From Base Station According To ITU Guide Lines. GIS Is A Useful Tool To Visualize As Well As Analyze Many Of The Factors That Go Into Deciding The Best Areas To Build A New Cellular Tower. A Model Was Created In Arcgis Model Builder And Converted To Python Script Tool Programming For Applications To Automatically Area Coverage Of Existing Cellular Sites And Display It Spatially On Map. The Study Identified That Total Area Covered With Existing Sites And Succession Of Suitability Analyses Show That Within Distance Around 3km More Than 80% Of The Cellular Network Service Population Are Accessible To Services Currently In Munesa Wereda. The Results Shows How The Excellent Visualization And Spatial Handling Capabilities Of GIS Gives It An Extra Advantage As A Site Selection Modeling Tool. Thus, The Integration Of GIS Into Existing Cellular Sites And Path Loss Analysis Applications Is Recommended For Fast, Accurate And The Ability To Visualize The Terrain And Other Great Features. Finally This Study Recommends That, The Prepared Maps And Models For Cellular Network Optimum Site Selection In This Study May Assist The Telecom Tower Planner In The Detailed Planning Phase Of The Future Network In This Wereda.
