Abstract
Because of various factors such as design exclusivity, society awareness against open green
space, inequitable proximity and distribution, less quality and amenities in open green
spaces; many residents have limited access to open green areas that potentially depriving
urban residents benefits from open green areas: physical, psychological, mental, social, and
environmental well-being. This thesis presents a situational analysis of open green areas of
Galan town in relation to the wellbeing of its residents. The study aims to investigate the
relationship between open green spaces and urban residents' wellbeing, particularly
residents of Galan town. In addition to case studies of various urban green spaces and their
significance in relation to visitors' and inhabitants' quality of life, the research depends on
a survey of the literature on the connections between urban green space and residents'
health. The study also examines qualities of green space, including parks, gardens and
playgrounds in the study neighborhood. The research methodology includes \the
combination of qualitative and quantitative research technique. For data collection
questionnaire, site observation survey and focus group interviews were used. SPSS tool have
deployed for Statistical data analysis. To analyze spatial data Arc GIS and remote sensing
(RS) have used. The study found that urban green spaces have a positive impact on residents'
mental and physical health, and the quality and accessibility of green spaces are important
factors in promoting wellbeing. The study also founds access to urban green space is not
equitable and spending more time in green spaces is associated with increased self satisfaction and social interaction. The study highlights the community-oriented green space
planning and recommends the development and improvement of urban green spaces should
involve different stakeholders in the planning and designing process of green spaces that
are sustainable, equitable, and accessible to all residents.
