Abstract
The Unprecedented Population Growth, Rising In Community Living Standard (Changing Lifestyle) And Urbanization Have Left Most Municipalities In Developing Countries Including Ethiopia Grappling To Find Viable Solutions To Their Waste Management Problems (Health- Pollution-Degradation).The Main Objective Of The Study Was To Conduct Locational Analysis On Solid Waste Bins By Using GIS Method In Adama Town. Data Were Collected Both From primary & Secondary Sources And GIS Based Techniques Were Employed To Analyze The Data. Selection Of Locational Analysis Of The Collection Bins Has Been Normally Carried Out By Service Area Analysis Using Waste Bins Locations Of Existing And Proposed At Traveling Distance Of 200m, 300m, 400m And 500m, Besides Quantitative Method For The Time Interval And Frequency For The Bins To Replace. GPS Used To Take The Co-Ordinates Of Existing Solid Waste Bins And Digital Camera Used To Take The Image Of The Illegal Waste Dumped Site. The result Shows That Insufficient Solid Waste Management System Due To Insufficient Number And Uneven Distribution Of Waste Bins. The Findings Of The Study Revealed That Scenarios At 500m Trimming Polygon Location And 117 Numbers Of Waste Bins For The Proposed Waste Bins Are Optimum For Better Collection Services. The Low Time Interval (2 Days) And High Frequency (15times) In A Month For The Existing Solid Waste Bins. In Contrast, The Proposed Ones Have Higher Time Interval (19 Days) And Lower Frequency (2 Times) In A Month. In Conclusion, The Proposed Solid Waste Collection Systems Have Better Economic And Environmental Advantage Over The Existing System. The Implication Of The Study Is That Any Policy Directed Towards The Provision Of Effective Solid Waste Management System In The Town Should Incorporate Time Interval To Fill And Frequency To Replace Waste Bins At Kebele Level
