Abstract
The main purpose of this study is to assess the practice teaching vocabulary in EFL classes of Agarfa Secondary School, grade nine in focus. In the research descriptive research design has been used since the research focuses to describe the current practice of teaching the EFL vocabulary in the school. Moreover, mixed method i.e. quantitative and qualitative research method has been used. Participants of the study were the 5 EFL teachers and 112 the grade 9 students. Data for the study were gathered through semi-structured interview, classroom observation and questionnaires. In the study the researcher has focused on roles of the teachers and the students, the applied teaching strategies in the EFL classrooms and suggestions of the teachers in finding solutions for problems in the practice of teaching the EFL vocabulary. Findings of the study reveal that there were some problems in the practice of teaching EFL vocabulary in the school in case of certain reasons. Enough attention has not been given in teaching the language and its vocabulary. The teachers did not pay attention and did not have enough skill in how to teach the EFL vocabulary. There was lack of having enough practice of teaching vocabulary and there were lack of necessary resources to teach the EFL vocabulary. Finally, the researcher recommended that EFL teachers should have enough study and training to update their teaching skill and students should get enough and sustainable practices of the language vocabulary. Moreover, the researcher suggested that the school principals should fulfill the necessary requirements such as additional classrooms and plasma program to bring the quality of educational practices of teaching the EFL vocabulary in the school.
