Abstract
The street which is designed for everyone regardless of ability, age and mode of transportation is called a complete street. They balance the needs of drivers, pedestrians, bicyclists, transit riders, and goods movement based on local context. The aim of a livable community is people get where they went to go by foot, bicycle, wheelchair, public transportation or any transportation means they prefer. Many urban streets lack proper sidewalk and bicycle lanes. Curb stone around sidewalk and median block wheelchair users. Adama city streets are facing problems such as traffic overcrowding, lack of bicycle lanes, lack of adequate parking, problems of pedestrian ways, exclusion of aging and disabled people, and problems of transportation choices. The objective of this research is To identify potentials of complete street of Adama street using multi criteria decision aiding approach. This research is carried out through questionnaires and observation. The subjective method was applied to collect street users?�? perceptions about the challenges of complete street design and their perception of the street. The questionnaire was conducted on the sample population of 384 people because the population of the area is large. The objective method was conducted to access the quality of street escape and to determine the existing situation of the street to complete street standards.By analyzing all input data, the main challenges of complete street design on Derartu Tulu street like the economy, social and physical challenges were identified. Derartu Tulu street was evaluated according to complete street design standards and it does not preserve the standards. People need the improvement of this street because they believe that Derartu Tulu street has many problems and has low quality. The analysis Derartu Tulu street result shows that this street does not include all street users and it is unsafe and uncomfortable for the street users.
