Recently in nanotechnology research, synthesis of nanoparticle from green chemistry pathways has been preferred due to its natural biological reduction property which reduces the utilization and exposure of toxic chemical to the environment when compared to physical and chemical methods. The present study focuses on the green synthesis and characterization of zinc oxide nanoparticles using different ratios of Kalanchoae petitiana Leaf extract for antibacterial application on the drug resistant bacteria. Zinc acetate dihydrate were used as precursor to synthesize ZnO nanoparticles using the Kalanchoae petitiana leaf extract. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized by advanced techniques like Thermo Gravimetric Analysis (TGA), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). TGA was performed for ZnO nanoparticles to study the thermal stability of materials. The XRD analysis reveals all the synthesized particles have pure hexagonal phase with particle size in the range of 12 – 22 nm. The FT-IR analysis shows the interaction between the capping agents and the synthesized ZnO nanoparticle. The SEM analysis indicates the nanorods and hollow shape morphology and grain size increases with the decrease of the concentration of the capping agents. EDX spectrum showed the elemental composition of ZnO NPs. The synthesised ZnO NPs were applied for antibacterial activity against Klebsella Pneumonia, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Entrococcius Spps bacteria using disc diffusion method. ZnO NPs at 3:1 ratio has greatest zone of inhibition (11mm,12mm,11mm) indicating that it has greatest antibacterial activity against gram-negative bacteria(E.coli and klebsella pneumonia) and gram- positive bacteria (S.aaureus) but resistant to gram- positive bacteria ( Entrococcius spp).en_US
