Abstract
This Dissertation, "Assessing The Challenges And Barriers In The Implementation Of Urban Land Use Planning In Adama, Ethiopia," Examines The Intricate Barriers Hindering Effective Urban Planning In One Of Ethiopia's Rapidly Expanding Cities. Employing A Mixed-Methods Approach, The Study Gathered Data Through Surveys (N=274), Interviews (N=15), And Spatial Mapping To Analyze Institutional, Technical, And Social Barriers. The Study Identifies Key Institutional Issues, Such As Coordination And Governance Fragmentation Between Adama City Administration And The Oromia Regional Bureau, Weak Policy Implementation, And Rampant Corruption. Technical Issues Such As Dependence On Obsolete Planning Data, Restricted Uptake Of Technology, And Inadequate Training Also Hinder The Planning Process. Low Participation And Strong Social Resistance Fueled By Fear Of Displacement And Dissatisfaction With Compensation Also Worsen The Issues. The Study Concludes That The Reforms In The Governance System, Improved Technological Capacity, And Increased People?s Participation Are Required To Improve The Effectiveness And Sustainability Of Adama Urban Land-Use Planning. This Study Offers Significant Contributions To Policymakers, Urban Planners, And Researchers Operating Under Similar Circumstances.
