Abstract

Solar Energy Is One Of The Widely Used Renewable Energy That Can Be Harnessed Either By Directly Driving Energy From The Sunlight Or Indirectly. Solar Water Heating On The Other Hand Is One Of The Applications Of Solar Energy That Has Drawn Great Attention Among Researcher In This Field. Solar Collector And Storage Tank Are The Two Core Components In Solar Water Heater Application. Hospitals And Hospital Buildings Everywhere Are Large Consumers Of Energy, Which They Use In Many Different Ways. As Large Consumers Of Energy More Than 50-60 % Of Energy Is Used For Thermal Energy Application In The Hospital Have High Bills For Electricity And Fuels, Ethiopia National Energy Agency (2013). This Study Aims Is Substituting Electricity And Fuel (Diesel) Assist Energy Source By Solar-Thermal System For Hot Water Supply To Adama General Hospital. The Load Estimation Technical Applied By Combine International And Local Water Usage Consideration, Available Radiation Is Calculated From Sunshine Hour Duration In Every 3 Hours In The Years Of 2013 To 2017 G.C Collected From Nearby Metrology Agency Also Diurnal Air Temperature Model Is Selected Because Of The Parameter Available To Be Used The Equation Used Data For Ambient Temperature (Maximum And Minimum) In The Year Of 2017.Optimization Of Storage Tank And Insulation Thickness Done By Consider Heat Loss And Cost Of Material. Transient Performance Of The System Is Computed Using A Numerical Heat Transfer Model Of U-Type Evacuated Tube Solar Collector With Storage Tank. Sizing Of Solar Collector And Storage Tank Is Based On Amount Of Energy Need To Fulfill The Daily Water Demand With Required Water Temperature And The Result From The Analysis Shows That The Daily Hot Water Demand Of Adama General Hospital Is Fulfill By The Use Of 52 Collectors And Two Storage Tank Each With The Capacity Of 15.011 M3 With Initial Investment Cost 1,066,388.44 Birr And Life Cycle Cost 2,003,254.14 Birr Also Unit Cost Per Kwh Equals To 0.24 Birr And The Payback Period Of The Project 67 Months.
