Abstract
Polyvinyl Chloride (Pvc) And Nanocellulose Have Been Identified As Promising Candidates For Developing Sustainable Composite Materials. This Study Explores The Reinforcement Effects OfIntegrating Nanocellulose Into Pvc Matrices, With A Focus On Improving Mechanical Properties, Biodegradability, And Overall Environmental Sustainability. Enset Nanocellulose (Enc), Obtained From Residue Sources, Was Incorporated Into The Pvc Matrix At Varying Concentrations To AssessIts Impact On The Composite's Mechanical Performance And Biodegradability. The Methodology Involved Extracting Cellulose From Enset Fibers And Preparing Enc Through Hydrolysis. Composite Materials Were Fabricated Using A Solution Casting Technique With EncContent Ranging From 5% To 25%. Various Analytical Techniques, Including Scanning Electron Microscopy (Sem), X-Ray Diffraction (Xrd), Thermogravimetric Analysis (Tga), And Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (Ftir), Were Employed To Evaluate Dispersion, Interaction, Thermal Stability, And Functional Group Identification. Mechanical Performance Was Assessed ViaTensile Testing, And Biodegradability Tests Were Conducted To Determine The Degradation Rate Under Different Environmental Conditions. Results Showed That Incorporating Nanocellulose Significantly Enhanced The Mechanical Properties And Biodegradability Of Pvc Composites. Improved Tensile Strength And Faster Biodegradation RatesWere Observed, Confirming The Reinforcing Effect Of Nanocellulose And Its Potential For Environmentally Friendly Applications. Sem And Xrd Analyses Indicated Strong Interfacial Adhesion Between Nanocellulose And Pvc.This Research Contributes To The Ongoing Efforts In The Development Of Sustainable Composite Materials By Leveraging The Unique Properties Of Pvc And Nanocellulose. The Findings Underscore The Potential Of Pvc/Nanocellulose Composite Packaging Applications Where Both Performance And Environmental Considerations Are Significant.
