The use of fillers is a common method for improving the mechanical properties of polymer composites. In this study, we investigate the synthesis and characterization of precipitated calcium carbonate (MPCC) Nano-Powders coated with tallow fatty acid combinations and their application as fillers in high-density polyethylene (HDPE) composites. The coated precipitated calcium carbonate (MCPCC) Nano particles were used as fillers in HDPE composites to enhance the interfacial interaction and mechanical properties. Particle size distribution analysis was performed to ensure uniform dispersion of the coated PCC Nano particles. The weight percentage of MPCC was varied between 0 and 40%, and the best combination of HDPE and MPCC was evaluated to achieve outstanding mechanical qualities. The coated MPCC Nano powder was mixed with virgin HDPE and injection molded to prepare tensile specimens. Thermal analysis, XRD, FTIR, and SEM were used to characterize the HDPE/MPCC and HDPE/MCPCC composites to investigate the dispersion and interfacial interaction between MPCC and the HDPE matrix. The thermal properties of HDPE and its composites were also studied using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The mechanical properties of the composites were evaluated, and the optimum weight percent of MPCC in HDPE was found to be 20wt%. A slight decrease in tensile strength occurred after this concentration. A comparison of the tensile strength for similar weight percentages of coated and uncoated MPCC Nano powder showed that tallow-coated MPCC Nano powders increased the tensile strength by 5.5%. Coating the 20wt% MPCC Nano Powder with 10% fatty acids increased the toughness modulus to 33.43 KJ/m3, a significant increase of 14.2% compared to the uncoated 20wt% Nano PCC composite. Overall, the results suggest that tallow-coated MPCC Nano powder is a promising filler for improving the mechanical properties of HDPE composites.en_US
