dc.description.abstractThe Present work outlines the antimicrobial activity of Fe3O4 nanoparticles synthesized through micro emulsion method from hydrated ferric nitrate and ferrous sulfate as precursor material and ammonia as precipating agent with the assistant of Tween -80 and SDS surfactants. The obtained Fe3O4 nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray diffraction, Scanning electron microscopy, Thermogravimetry-Differential thermal analyzer and Infrared Spectroscopy. X-ray diffraction and Fourier transforms Infrared spectra showed that the Fe3O4 NPs was phase pure with cubic inverse spinel structure & presence of Fe-O bond respectively. The crystallite size determined from XRD using Scherrer’s equation was in the range of 7.5-10.83 nm for uncoated Fe3O4 and 16 nm for silica coated Fe3O4 Nps. SEM results showed that the bare Fe3O4 nanoparticles morphologies heterogeneous and agglomerated. But the silica coated Fe3O4 Nps was relatively homogeneous without any substantial agglomeration. The Fe3O4 Nps size slightly increases with the temperature and precursor concentration. The antimicrobial activity of Fe3O4 nanoparticles tested against Gramnegative (Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and Gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis) bacteria exhibited good antimicrobial activity.en_US
