The main objective of this study is to assess the influence of leadership styles on job performance. Having the objective in mind, the study employed a descriptive survey type of research design. The study was carried out in thirteen government secondary schools four from Adama city and nine high schools from east shewa zone. A total of 243 teachers have participated in the study. From the total 128 teachers were included in the study through simple random sampling technique. A total of 22 school principals and vice principals were included through purposive sampling technique. Questionnaire and interview were designed to be the main data collection instruments. Principal leadership styles were taken as independent variables and teacher’s job performance was identified as dependent variable. Both quantitative and qualitative research methods were used. Quantitative data analysis was carried out by using frequency distribution, percentages, mean, and Pearson’s correlation. Semi structured questionnaires were analyzed by putting similar opinions in one category. The finding of this study indicated that there is a positive relationship between leadership styles and teachers’ job performance (r = .816) at (Sign=0.000) at 0.05 significance level. The findings of this study revealed that the independent variable (democratic leadership style) was the most practiced leadership styles in the areas under study. Furthermore, the teachers’ performance was found to be moderate. Based on the findings, it is recommended that the principals of secondary schools should practice a mixture of democratic and laissez-faire styles of leadership.en_US
