| dc.description.abstract | Adama Water Supply and Sewerage (AWSSE) is the owner to utilized and installed water pipelines infrastructures such as; water pipeline, individual customer water meters, water control valves, water fittings, fire hydrants, reservoirs and supplying water for the people of the Adama Town. However, the Enterprise has no well-designed geodatabase for water pipelines infrastructures that enables to easily manage in cost effective, efficient and time manners. Due to this, the Enterprise faced a problem that had led to fail in properly managing those infrastructures such as: maintenance issue, controlling illegal use and leakage of water resources. In addition, with the currently existing management condition the Enterprise is unable to have the appropriate location for the Gross water meter to manage wastage of water. Nowadays GIS had led to overcome such problems if used in managing water network infrastructures. So, ArcGIS was implemented to increases water resource management involves activities like planning, developing, distributing and managing the optimum use of water pipelines infrastructures. Therefore, this study was aimed at developing GIS based geometric network model of water pipeline for Adama Town. The study starts with identifying requirement analysis and collecting primary data such as GPS data spatial location water pipelines infrastructures and secondary data such as CAD files. The need of the Enterprise was identified through requirement analysis, and geodatabase design was done through conceptual, logical, physical design phase by using enterprise architecture UML diagram software. The designed UML was exported to XML schema and the geodatabase model was developed using ArcGIS software based on the requirement of the water utility geometric model. Primary and secondary data is populated in developed geodatabase for test the model. Geometric network was developed in geodatabase through connectivity rules. This study is developed GIS based geometric network model for water pipeline of Adama Town, prototype was selected in specific area in the Adama Town kebele 05 around Adama Industry Area used for validation of the model, to test the developed model, but the study recommended AWSSE to implement the model for the whole Adama Town and tested for spatial analysis based on, different scenarios such as valve isolation and maintenance scenarios and identify the configuration of pipeline network was identified, in order to evaluate the efficiency of the developed geometric model and validate through field observation. To control illegal use water the enterprise should collect manholes and water control valves to select suitable place of gross water meter. This study recommends the developed model can be utilized by the enterprise for effectively managing and updating information of pipelines infrastructures. | en_US |
