dc.description.abstractThe major purpose of this study was to propound how indigenous knowledge in the Gadaa systemdetermined the roles and responsibilities of an individual in the Oromo society and demonstratethe viable practices and principles of Gadaa system for boosting productivity and ensuringsustainable development. This study was conducted by using qualitative research method andexploratory research design that helped to gather relevant data of Gadaa system from keyinformants through focus group discussion, key informant interview and personal observation.The gathered data were properly summarized, interpreted and thematically analyzed in order toprovide the results of the study. As a result, the study revealed that there were different practices,principles, strategies and mechanisms within the Gadaa system that helped to generate viabletechnique that could be adopted for ensuring good governance, proper resource management,economic self-sufficiency, productivity improvement and sustainable development in the country.Accordingly, Gadaa system has been proven a panacea to almost every aspect of the society andhence the government and concerned stakeholders have to customize and implement the importantpractices and principles of Gadaa system for shaping the behavior of citizens in carrying out theirroles and managing their resources so as to boost productivity and ensure sustainabledevelopment.
