Abstract
Automotive Air Conditioning System Is Playing An Important Role In Human Thermal Comfort, Uniform Temperature Distribution And To Some Extent Safety During Vehicle Driving In Varied Atmospheric Conditions. Now A Day There Is Competition Between Public Long-Distance Bus Transport Companies In Ethiopia In Providing Comfortable, Right On Time, And Enjoyable Trip To Any Part Of Ethiopia. But Local Body-Built Buses Are Not Air Conditioned And Make Your Trip Worst And Exhausting. To Make These Buses More Comfortable And Competitive With Other Imported Air-Conditioned Buses It Is Better To Design Effective Air Conditioning System Locally Based On The Number Of Passengers, Distance Traveled, Outdoor Weather Conditions, Indoor Design Conditions, Dimensions And Optical Properties Of Glass, Dimensions And Thermal Properties Of Materials In Bus Body, And Power And Torque Limitations Of Bus Engine. In This Thesis Work, Air Conditioning System Was Designed Based On Passenger Comfort Parameters Depending On Working Environment Provided With Air Condition System Of In The Bus Having Passengers Including The Driver. Cooling Load Is Analyzed By Using Analytical Methods Based On Ashrae For The Design And Application Of Heating, Ventilation And Air Conditioning For Passenger Vehicles. Cooling Load Was Calculated For 44 Passengers Of The Isuzu Fsr Bus, AsPer The Calculations Of Cooling Load Obtained From The Bus Is 26.08 Kw. With Respect To The Obtained Results, Air Conditioning System Was Selected And Designed. Then Using Ansys Fluent Computational Fluid Dynamics (Cfd) Software The Designed Air Conditioning System Air Flow And Temperature Distribution Simulated To Validate The Design Before Building First To Reduce The Testing Time And Cost. Cfd Model Incorporated With The Combined Sst Turbulence Model And The Results Were Checked Against The Aspect Of ?? Grid Independence??. Results Of Simulation Shows The Designed Air Conditioning System Is Capable Of Insuring Satisfactory Thermal Conditions For The Passengers.
