Abstract

Urban forestry and green spaces have less priority in urban planning. This research intends to assess the policy and planning of urban green space s with their potential implementation status and challenges in planning and implementation. The general objective is to assess urban green space planning, policy, and implementation strategies and challenges encountered in Dukem Sub -city. The primary data will be collected through key in form ant interviews, focus group discussions, and field observation; secondary data from a literature review along with examining policy and master plans of Dukem Sub-city. The mapping of stake holder and institutional arrangements is analyzing using stakeholder consultation. Triangulation is used for data validation and analysis. Existing policy and proclamations must be supported by legislative regulate on sand implementation frame works that provide the basis for concrete action plans. The land us eland cover (LULC) dynamic s in Dukem Sub- city using remote sensing & GIS techniques between 2003 and 2019? years revealed that built? up area augmented severely from 698.06? ha (16.45 %) in 2003 to 3,091.67 hectare (72.81%) in 2019. Specifically, agricultural land extremely decreased in all years from 2,764.37 hectares (65.12%) in 2003 to 999.05 hectare (23.53%) in 2019. According to Dukem Sub-city structural plan documents, Urban Green Infrastructure and Resort recreation is a potential of Dukem; however, resort and related facilities s always exists as long as the setting (environment) is well kept. In the case of Dukem sub - city the hilly sitesarepla ces of attractions, thus parks and recreation all areas are planned considering the seassumptions. The proposaltries to harmonize the environment and recreational facilities. The research on cludes that, regulations and directives are noticeably drafted by responsible bodies, and lowen for cement is hardly a p plied with respect to the green space development of Dukem Sub- city. The refore, prin ciples, regulations and directives should be provided by the responsible body through creating awareness, ensuring its inclusiveness and implementations
