Abstract

In Concrete Asphalt Road Projects, Heavy Duty Construction Equipments Are Very Important Factors For Successful Construction Implementation. Generally, The Construction Industry Is Looking For The Most Acceptable Equipment Productivity Base Line For Different Project Types. Because The Construction Industry Has Been On Progress Through Time, The Productivity Of Equipments Should Also Be Revised So As To Minimize Loss Of Productivity Which Is Dependent On Different Working Conditions. Being So, Assessing The Productivity Of The Equipment In An Upgraded Concrete Asphalt Road Project Was A Matter Of Achieving A Better Equipment Productivity Base Line In General In Town Section And In Particular In The Study Area On Roads In Addis Ababa. The Objective Of This Research Was To Assess The Actual Productivity Of Heavy Duty Equipments In The Selected Upgraded Concrete Asphalt Road Projects, To Identify Factors Affecting Construction Productivity And To Understand About All The Problems Occurring In The Project Because Of Improper Utilization Of Equipments And To Put A Better Recommendation. Therefore A Case Study And Questionnaire Survey Were Used To Diagnose And Evaluate The Utilization Process Involved In The Equipment Management. In Construction Project Operation, Often There Is A Project Cost Variance In Terms Of The, Equipments, Material, Manpower, Subcontractor, Overhead Cost, And General Conditions. Equipment Is The Main Component In Construction Projects. If The Equipment???S Productivity Is Not Properly Managed It Will Create A Project Cost Variance. Project Cost Can Be Controlled By Taking Corrective Actions Towards The Cost Variance. Therefore, It Is Crucial That The Equipment Productivity On Upgraded Concrete Asphalt Road Projects In Town Section Should Be Assessed In Order Not To Face Loss Of Productivity Which Leads To Increase In Cost Of The Project .
