Abstract
Primary school is among the most basic needs of the public and directly related to Resident’s. So
This study aims to select suitable site for the development of primary school in Adama city,
Ethiopia using geospatial technology and location allocation analysis. To enhance access of all
school age population in the same area. The spatial Statistical Analysis, locational quotient and
nearest neighborhood analysis method for spatial distribution, concentration and pattern
respectively at the level of city. The level of accessibility investigated by using road network
service are analysis in terms of Distance spatial analysis except for digital Elevation model and
land use the rest data were through the Proximity analysis .The new school facility are selected
by Location allocation analysis in Arc GIS. The data used for this study; such as Road networks,
existing primary school facilities, population density, Slope, manufacturing site and land use
land cover data. The result of location allocation Analysis at standard distance 2.5km provided
78930 points are allocated which equals to 89.14%.and Service Area 82175 (92.9%) population
nodes are bounded. un-allocated demand nodes 9612 and 6367 for LA and SA from 888452
respectively10.86% demands are outside this limit for these demands the study have been
identified as Very High suitable, High Suitable, Medium suitable to select suitable site for
Primary School facilities development respectively. the study also identified low suitable and
very low suitable site respectively in this study; nine(9) spots are chosen for candidate site .From
these spots
five (5) additional site are selected by using suitability and overlaying analysis
method ,to validate these selected suitable site. And the study recommended: City administration
was before establishment of any public service center shall make pre and post facility and
customer link studies.
