| dc.description.abstract | The general objective of this study is to describe the inhabitants and livelihoods of Adama Kebele 04 slum dwellers towards revealing their situations and also to forward a feasible recommendation in order to give dimensions for any responsible and interested sectors who would like to have knowledge in such slum situations to intervene and help the needy community. The research was used mixed method in which the qualitative method supplemented by descriptive statistics as of quantitative. Primarily the data were collected through in-depth interview and personal observations were used too. The research has employed sample size of 32 households. Systematic random sampling technique was employed to select appropriate population to the study. To analyze the data the study has applied deeper verbal narrations and few descriptive statistics such as percentage, table and pie-chart. Although this slum inhabitant had major physical impairment and diseases but about 96.875% of respondents are struggling to survive or working than begging or being dependent on others. But their income is very small and majority of them cannot even afford the cost for their family’s daily food consumptions that they are using the left over foods as their main meal. The 68.75% of the respondents are living in poorly constructed shelters and this shelter comprises three to five family members. And some respondents don’t have such shelters yet and they are homeless. The 81.25% of these respondents’ shelters are male house headed with a variety of skills, potentials and commitments for work and change their life. But they couldn’t move forward that there are huge gaps of professional studies towards revealing the potentials and entire existing situations of this community. as a result they are suffering by settling in those terrible shelters a place which lacks serious ventilations, electricity, water, drainage’s and toilet problems while they have a potentials to change it. However the study recommends that, primarily some of those seriously suffering impaired individuals have to get wheelchairs at list to let them move alone. Beside there must a solution to improve the whole shelters in well ventilated situations until their find better solutions, there should be more professional studies over this community, establishing more micro enterprises and creating job opportunities etc. | en_US |
