Abstract

The Widespread Growth Of Slums Or Squatter Urban Settlements Has Become A Central Policy Issue In The Last Two Decades. Currently, Urban Squatter Landholdings Have Become A Source Of Social, Political, And Economic Problems In Parts Of Ethiopian Cities. Dire Dawa City Also Has Similar Characteristics As Another City Of Our Country On Squatter Settlement.. Analyzingthe Extent Of Squatter Settlement Conditions In Dire Dawa City By Using Geospatial Technology Is Main Objective Of This Thesis Whereas Analyzing Land Use Land Cover Trend Of Study Area From 2010 To 2020, Identifying Major Causes Of Squatter Settlement In Study Area And Others Are Specific Objective Of This Study. To Achieve The Main And Specific Objective Of The Study Socio-Spatial Mixed Approach That Comprises Social And Spatial Analysis Techniques Was Used. The Social Data Analysis Results Point Out That Weak Governance, Population Growth, Political Crisis, And Others As The Major Causes Of Squatter Settlement In Study Area While Spatial Data Analysis Results Reveals The Declined And Risen Of Land Cover To One Another; The Overall Change Detection During Study Time Was Show That Continued Increment Of Built Up With 30.1% Between 2010-2020, And Radical Declination Of Other Classes In This Ten Years. Designing The Appropriate And Workable Policy And Regulation For Land Management Purposes In Addition To That Revising Of Rigid Articles From Existing Land Policy And Regulation Should Be Important. Improving The Capacity Of The Municipality With Well Trained Manpower With Recent Equipment, Software And Service Delivery Is Another Essential Point Put As Recommendation For This Study.
