Development of green technology is generating interest of researchers towards eco-friendly and low cost method for biosynthesis of nanoparticles. The present study focuses on the green synthesis and characterization of copper oxide nanoparticles using Bersama abyssinica leaf extract and monohydrated copper (II) acetate for antibacterial application on the drug resistant bacteria. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized using Thermo Gravimetric Analysis (TGA), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), SEM and EDX. X-ray diffraction studies showed that the particles are monoclinic in nature and the size is found to be in the range 24.6–31.5 nm. The XRD analysis showed that for certain ratios, particle size were increased with increase precursor salt volume. The FT-IR analysis showed the formation of bond between copper and oxygen which confirm the formation of CuO nanoparticles. The SEM analysis indicates the spherical shape morphology for the CuO NPs and EDX spectrum showed the synthesized CuO NPs was pure. Furthermore, the synthesized CuO NPs exhibit significant antibacterial activity against pathogenic bacterial strains namely gram positive bacteria S.aureus & Bacillus subtilis and gram negative bacteria Escherichia coli but it shows resistance against gram negative Pseudomonas aeruginosa.en_US
