dc.description.abstractThe objective of this study was to assess the teachers’ work motivation and job satisfaction in government secondary schools of Hadiya Zone. With this, an attempt was made to forward possible solutions for these problems. To conduct this study, descriptive survey method was employed. The participants of this study were 134 respondents selected by using simple random sampling techniques. Out of this,119 were teachers, 8 schools principals, 4 cluster supervisors and 3 woreda education office experts. The data were collected by using questionnaire, interview and document analysis. Both quantitative and qualitative data analysis were employed in order to reach at results. The analysis of the quantitative data was carried out by using frequency, percent, mean, standard deviation and Pearson product correlation coefficient. A Pearson correlation analysis was conducted to examine the relationship between Extrinsic and Intrinsic motivation factors that affect the teachers’ work motivation and job satisfaction in the study areas. The results revealed that there were a significant and positive relationship between Extrinsic and Intrinsic motivation factors (r= .948**, N= 108) and **. Correlation is significant at the 0.01 level (2tailed). The correlation was strong and positive relationship in both extrinsic and intrinsic motivation factors. The effect of extrinsic motivation factors were stronger than the effect of intrinsic motivation factors that helps to increase up the performance of teachers’ work motivation and job satisfaction in government secondary schools of Hadiya Zone. The value of Extrinsic coefficient accounts 0.639 and the value of Intrinsic coefficient accounts 0.009. Furthermore, the result shown that, extrinsic factors were more important in motivating secondary school teachers. In terms of incentives and benefit, growth and development and status were the most persuasive contributor to teachers’ level of motivation. In general the findings supposed to conclude, secondary schools in Hadiya Zone had not work effectively on improving the motivation and satisfaction level of teachers and thus teachers need to leave the profession. Based on the findings, it is recommended that secondary schools, Woreda education office and Zone education department should give necessary incentives and benefit for teachers through building house in rural areas by mobilizing the community, giving place to build home in urban areas and furnishing the working conditions with refreshment facilities.en_US
