Abstract
Car parking is stopping of the car at the end of the journey or at the destination of the place
where driver moved and Car parking space is also paved or unpaved place of spacefic place
for parking purpose as individual or group parking of car. Nowadays in Hosanna Town, many
challenges are mainly concerned with the shortage of Car parking space provision on the
transportation system especially in the study area in Arada Sub City. Such as Traffic
congestion due to imbalance of on-street Car parking space and increasing the number of
different vehicles from time to time and their flow on 15-meter existing main asphalt Road,
Traffic accident due to the traffic Congestion, idle of the drivers by waiting for parking space,
fuel consumption and Obstruction to firefighting operations were known in Study area. To
determine and measure the above challenges on the Town, the existing car parking space
provision, parking space problems, parking space selection criteria on the town, and effects by
the shortage of car parking space provision on the transport system had analyzed based on the
structured and semi-structured questionnaire, Interview, and direct purposively selected
congested and CBD area 500meter on-street Asphalt and five Hotels and parking provision
system observation had been surveyed on this study. Qualitative and quantitative data
collection methods had used to get primary and secondary data. The main part of Car parking
space provision on the transport system had to analyze the factors affecting the provision of the
parking space, those were parking angles, size of the vehicles, circulation system, and some
vehicles that were parked were counted by license plate survey method from seven respective
weekdays and weekends and as result researcher, determined that the accumulation rate and
efficiency on the 500meter asphalt road that had selected by the researcher judgmentally by the
road congestion and business center of the town taken as the criteria. But, even the analysis
shows the on-street parking was efficient, depending on the Analyses of seven days counting of
the traffic duration, the researcher concluded the following option, in addition to the result
from the questioner, interview and field observations, the off-street car parking space provision
recommendation had prepared as the urban design intervention to bring accessibility for all
parking as the option.
