Abstract

Fruit belt development in Ethiopia, Bishoftu sub-city would solve different problems with respect to environmental, social, and economic values. The research has multi-dimensional purposes and objectives with multi-dimensional planning approach of environmental development and comprehensives landscape system for producing food products and creating of comfortable Town environment. This study encourages the development of Towns and urban environment by improving traditional green space into more functional ways. The study can play an effective role in revealing Town dwellers to nature improvement and productive environment with the enhancement of habitats for flora and fauna, which is a great opportunity for other development such as apiculture, aquaculture, and biodiversity. In order to the study results, buffer zones are the first and most effective and suitable places to develop a fruit tree and vegetation? and enhance the comprehensive urban landscape. Fruit belt development is a conspicuous way to struggle with poverty. A setback along roadside also the second suitable and potential places to plant fruit trees. The land availability and water access and supply were the least challenges, which shows that an opportunity to develop a fruit belt in Bishoftu sub-city. Its aim is to plant fruit trees and vegetation using rainwater harvesting in the urban environment. This study has high values in an urban environment to address dwellers food consumption and other multi-benefits in the urban environment and social life improvement. The fruit belt development in the city helps to minimize flooding impacts, urban heat island, and air quality and rise water cycling system. The planner and designers of urban green space should rethink creatively to find innovative thoughts and provide opportunities to develop and enhance fruit belt development in Bishoftu sub-city.
