Abstract
The main purpose of this study was to identify the psycho-Social factors that affect assertive behavior of female student in Dugda Woreda preparatory schools, East Shoa Zone. A descriptive survey design was employed to achieve this objective. Both quantitative and qualitative approaches were used for conducting the study. Thus, questionnaires and semi structured interviews were utilized as instruments of data collection. Total participants in the research were 189 that included 76 female students, 30 teachers, 7 administration bodies and 76 families (guardians) from 2 (two) preparatory schools Dugda Woreda. The obtained quantitative data were processed using SPSS (Version 20) and descriptive statistics like percentage, mean and standard deviation. The collected qualitative data was analyzed thematically. The findings of the study revealed that as psychological factors put influence on female students not to express their feelings, interests, viewpoints, requests, thoughts, attitudes, wants etc., properly. The findings of the study showed, as female students are greatly affected by social factors not to be assertive. The findings of the study made on the level of assertiveness revealed that female students are moderate in behavior. Finally, based on the findings of the study, recommendations like the schools administration bodies and teachers should work hard to increase female students assertive behavior , self-esteem, and self-confidence with the help of professional psychologists and different mechanisms. In addition parents (guardians), must create an opportunities at home for their daughters to develop ability of expressing their feelings, attitudes, desires , viewpoints etc., in proper way and also the students should use the opportunities created by their parent (guardians ), administration bodies and teachers in order to enhance their ability and skill of expressing themselves properly.
