dc.description.abstractKnowledge based system is an interactive computer based system intended to help decision makers and assist experts in use of available technologies like ICT. Even though there are different sectors in which decision support system are used some of them are academic, commercial, industries, healthcare sectors, agricultural areas etc.; in most of them the way of making decision is not smart/properly designed because of lack of organizing huge amount of data in proper format for decision makers. A properly designed rule based expert system is intended to help decision makers to compile useful information from a combination of raw data, documents, personal knowledge, or business models to identify and solve problems and make decisions. Now a day’s decision makers suffer from making decision from vast amount of data. In this study rule based expert system for classifying HIV patients who are taking ART treatment is developed by adopting the concepts of data mining machine learning methods and rule based expert system. The thirteen years data of patients who are in ART treatment is analyzed to visualize and discover the knowledge. To acquire the rule, the PART algorithm is used while for implementation of this rule based system Jess language is used. The MVC design pattern is applied in developing this rule based expert system.en_US
