Abstract

Preliminary Observations Indicate That Industrial Area Development Can Significantly Boost Ethiopians Attractiveness For Investment And Business. However, As Several Reports Indicate, Industrial Areas Are The Second Foremost Factor That Caused To Increase The Toxic Pollution Problems In Worldwide. There Are A Huge Number Of Industries Developing In Awash Basin , All Of Which Have An Impact On The Basin??S Water. Most Of Industries In Adama Town Are Situated In The Periphery Of Strong Streams That Flow To Awash River. Therefore, The Main Objective Of This Research Is To Evaluate Land Use Suitability For Selection Of Industrial Site In Adama Town By Using Geospatial Technology. In This Study, Fourteen Sub-Criteria Coined Under Economic, Environmental, Geological And Population Major Criteria Were Used For The Evaluation. Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process (Fahp) Was Implemented To Overcome The Limitation Of Ahp. Consequently, Weights Were Elicited For The Criteria Based On The Fahp Method. Accordingly, Economic Major Criteria And Land Use Land Cover Sub-Criteria Were Taken The Highest Weight Influence For The Decision With Their Respective Value Of 45% And26%. Weighted Linear Combination (Wlc) Algorithm In Idrisi Selva Software Was Utilized To Superimpose The Weighted Criteria. Thus, The Suitability Map Result Indicated That The Study Area Can Be Categorized Into Restricted, Unsuitable, Less Suitable, Moderately Suitable And Suitable Zones. A Surprisingly Highly Suitable Zone Was Not Detected In The Study Area. Thus,The Second Alternative, Which Is A Suitable Zone Accounts For 41.8km2Of The Study Area While About 180.9km2Of The Area Was Restricted For Any Industrial Activity. The Other Unsuitable, Less And Moderately Suitable Class Index Covers 92.41km2Of The Study Area Collectively. Assessment Map Statistics Confirmed That Around 24.8% Of The Existing Industrial Areas Are Clustered In A Restricted Class Index. Scientific-Based Industrial Site Selection Is Important In Maintaining A Clean Environment And Sustainable Economic Development. For Selecting A Suitable Industrial Site Geospatial Technology Are Effective And Efficient Than The Usual Approach. Therefore, The Final Output Of This Study Could Be Helpful In The Management Of Industrial Site Selection By Providing Additional Insight To The Decision-Makers To Consider The Negative And Positive Aspects Of Industrial Sites In The Other Regions Of The Country AsWell. Finally, To Mitigate Issues Related To Industrial Sites Impact On The Environment, Investors, And Residence Numerous Stakeholders From The Various Field Ought To Work Collaboratively.
