Abstract

In This Study A Schiff Base Ligand (Sbl) And Its Cobalt (Ii) And Iron(Iii) Complexes Have Been Synthesized. Sbl Was Obtained In High Yield As A Deep Yellow Powder, And Its Elemental Composition Matched The Theoretical Value. The Cobalt (Ii) And Iron (Iii) Complexes Of Sbl Were Prepared In Good Yields As Stable Solids And Showed Experimental Elemental Compositions Matching Their Proposed Formulas. Ft-Ir And Uv-Vis Spectra Showed Shifts Indicative Of Ligand Coordination. Thermogravimetric Analysis Revealed That The Complexes Decomposed In Multiple Steps Above 100??C, Indicating Reasonable Stability. X-Ray Diffraction Showed That The Cobalt (Ii) Complex Had An Amorphous Structure While The Iron (Iii) Complex Was Crystalline. The Complexes Exhibited Moderate To High Antibacterial Activity Against Both Gram-Positive And Gram-Negative Bacteria. The Cobalt (Ii) Complex Demonstrated Inhibition Zones Of 6.67 - 10.33 Mm While The Iron (Iii) Complex Showed Zones Of 6.65 - 7.67 Mm. The Cobalt (Ii) Complex Displayed The Higher Antibacterial Activities Than That Of Iron (Iii) Complex.
