Supermarket Management System Using Bar code Technology

Abstract

Supermarket management system using barcode technology is a web based system that automates the supermarket’s sales activity. It enables for managing the stock details, maintaining the records of the sales done for a specific period of time and monitoring the expiry status of the items time to time. This system is developed to replace the existing standalone system in the supermarket by increasing efficiency and effectiveness, making more interactive, speedy and user friendly. The existing stand-alone system has problems in centralizing data base for the branches, in advertising and promoting products and reports are not accessible online. The system is developed using an object oriented methodology with programming languages and soft wares Net beans IDE 8.0.2, Java Development Kit 1.4.0(JDK1.4.0), HTML, Java Server Pages (JSP) for front end Glassfish Server 4.1 as Web server and MYSQL server 5.6.21 for backend. The system uses android mobile phone with Zxing android barcode scanner application, gate blue android application installed on it and Bluetooth device to scan barcodes on the item. At the end of the project, a web based supermarket management system is developed. The system generates bill, sales report, stock report, and print bill. It also checks the expiry date of each item.
