Abstract
The Human Being Factors And Urban Expansion Has A Great Role On Changing Surface Temperature And Changing Environmental Conditions. This Thesis Is Focused On A Basic Objective Of Assessment Of The Effect Of Land Use Land Cover Change On Surface Temperature In The Case Study Of Wolkite Town. The Town Is Experiencing Rapid Urbanization, Limitation Of Green Area Aesthetical Values And Unproportioned Land Use Design Problems That Has Resulted In Remarkable Surface Temperature. The Geospatial Tools And Special Package For Social Science Tool Used For Analysis Purpose. This Study Tries To Investigate And Identify Land Use Types Which Have The Most Influence To The Increase Of Surface Temperature In Wolkite Town. For The Present Thesis Landsat5 Thematic Mapper Images Of 1990, Landsat7 Enhanced Thematic Mapper Image Of 2000 ,2010 And Landsat8 Of Image 2020 Was Obtained From United States Geological Survey For The Study Area. Using Bands 1-5 And 7 Of The Pre-Processed Images The Land Use Land Cover Pattern Was Mapped By Supervised Classification With The Maximum Likelihood Classification Algorithm Of Erdas Imagine 2014 Software And The Correlation Between Surface Temperature And Normalized Difference Vegetation Index Analyzed By Spatial Package For The Social Science Tools. Three Classes Considered For The Study Are Urban Settlement, Green Area And Agricultural Land, From The Three-Class Agricultural Land And Urban Settlement Have A Great Domination In Study Area And Covers 85.03% From The Total Area Coverage. The Significant Change Of Agricultural Land Was -35.56% And Similarly In Urban Settlement Net Change Is +35.77%. The Result Showed That Maximum Air Temperature Was Observed In Built Up Areas Of The City With The Value Of 34.70C At 2020 And Minimum Temperatures Are Observed In Areas Where Green Area And Agricultural Land Values Are 18.90C At 1990. Normalized Difference Vegetation Index Is Found To Have Negative Correlation With St At A Value Of -0.98 And The Pearson Significance Value Were 0.002. The Thesis That Appropriates Strategies Are Necessary For The Sustainable Management Of The Urban Area And Environmental Protection Management.
