Abstract
This study was conducted to Investigating the implementation of building performance
simulation (BPS) during the design phase the case of Addis Ababa City with specific objectives
of to analyze the extent of awareness regarding to building performance simulation (BPS) and
to identify the major factors affecting the practice of BPS during design phase.
The scope of the study was limited to be focused on Investigating the implementation of building
performance simulation (BPS) of some consultants’ random samples in Addis Ababa City.
Investigating the implementation of building performance simulation (BPS) in the design phase
with providing some questionnaires and focus group discussion. The study’s research design is
descriptive and the research approach is mixed (qualitative and quantitative). The sample size
of the study is fifty respondents of the questionnaire that are engineers, surveyors, designers,
residence engineers, supervisors and project coordinators for building performance simulation
(BPS) in the design phase. The sampling technique used was systematic random sampling.
Hence, Survey questionnaire and interview is prepared based on reviewed literature to assess

the case of Addis Ababa City. Primary and secondary method of data collection is used from
respondents and detail literature reviews respectively. Then the data collected is analyzed using
statistical software package (SPSS V.26) and Microsoft excel. Results indicate Investigating the
implementation of building performance simulation (BPS) in the design phase to be medium.
This shows that Addis Ababa City was moderate performance on building performance
simulation (BPS) therefore, it needs improvement on building performance simulation (BPS)
during the design phase.
