Abstract
This study investigates the causes and consequences of urban expansion in Adama City, Ethiopia, focusing on changes in land use patterns and the factors contributing to the city?��?s rapid growth. It uses a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative and qualitative data collection methods. The quantitative and qualitative data was collected from a survey of 364 respondents, and 20 focus group discussion informant respectively. GIS and remote sensing were used to analyze the transformation Land using the supervised classification algorithm from 1991 to 2022; the study reveals significant transformations landscape, dramatic increase in built-up areas (813%) and a decrease in agricultural land (23%) within these years, reflecting rapid urbanization. The study also presents an accuracy assessment of LULC classification, with overall accuracy rates exceeding 85%, confirming the reliability of the data.
