Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the practice of teaching of listening skill in listening classroom . It was carried out in grade12Begi preparatory school. Three English language teachers and sixty students were the participants of the study. Data was collected and discussed analytically using quantitative data analysis. It was gathered using questionnaire and observation data gathering tools . Three English language teachers, who were teaching both grade 11 and 12 and sixty students from grade 12 completed the questionnaire.. Three of the teachers were observed (each three times) while they were teaching listening to see how they were practicing teaching of listening skill. The information gathered from the classroom observations was checked against the questionnaire. Then, responses given to questionnaire and the findings of the classroom observations were presented in tabulation and analyzed using frequency and percentage, then results were obtained . The findings revealed that teachers failed to implement frequently the teaching of listening according to the procedures and techniques favored by ELT scholars, and the teaching of listening skill based only on English textbook .Finally, based on the findings, it was recommended that teachers should get further training to employ successful implementation of listening lessons at the level. Teachers, on their part, should work hard and prepare supplementary materials in order to address the interest of their students in listening abilities, and the ministry of education should prepare extra listening texts besides the listening texts incorporated in English textbook
