Abstract
The Physical Condition Of Sidewalks Affected By Different Factors. Factors Such As Width, Surface Quality, Presence Of Obstacles, And Accessibility Features Directly Impact Pedestrian Mobility. Narrow Sidewalks, Damaged Surfaces, Obstructions Like Parked Vehicles Or Street Vendors, And A Lack Of Pedestrian-Friendly Infrastructure Contribute To An Unfavourable Walking Experience. These Challenges Hinder Pedestrians' Ability To Navigate The City On Foot And May Force Them To Rely More On Motorized Transportation Options. Adama A Rapidly Growing Conference And Industrial, Lacks Any Planned Walking Environment, And The Existing Sidewalks Are Also Inaccessible And Crowded With Obstructions Like Street Vendors. The Main Objective Of The StudyIs To Address The Unseen Physical Challenges Facing Pedestrians On The Sidewalk Of Adama City And Provide Effective Technical And Design Recommendations In This Study, Both Quantitative And Qualitative Methods Were Used To Achieve The Intended Objectives. The Study Conducted 384Questionnaire Surveys Using A Purposive Sampling Method To Obtain Information Related To Pedestrian Physical Challenge And Pedestrian Pattern, And Perceptions Of Built Environment Infrastructure. Based On The Observation Data Gathering The Pedestrian Level Of Service And Sidewalk Walkability Indicator Results Show That In Four Sidewalk Segment Surveyed Areas Resulted 35.7 Ped/Min/M, 34.84 Ped/Min/M, 25.7 Ped/Min/M And 4.13 Ped/Min/M Putting The Sidewalks Level Of Service In D, Level Of Service In D, Level Of Service C And Level Of Service A Respectively. Based On Plos The Finding Analysis Indicates That The Current Physical Condition Of The Sidewalk Has Inadequate Pedestrian Facilities And Lacks Connectivity With Many Pedestrian Movement Obstructions Which Resulted In The Reduction Of Pedestrian Walking Speed And Pedestrian Level Of Service (Plos). In General, The Study Developed A Strategy And Proposed A Design For A Pedestrian Walking Environment And A Better Space Where Pedestrian Can Travel Without Disturbing.
