Abstract
Construction quality management is the process of quality planning, quality plan implementation, quality assurance, quality control, use of quality improvement technique based on quality policy, quality standards and required technical specifications to achieve consumer satisfaction through top management bodies commitment, quality assurance and control team of the contracting parties.
Quality of construction should be managed starting from designing to material delivery, at production centers, during the execution of the structure and at the final users or operation stage.
Addis Ababa Housing Development Project (AAHDPO) has a life of more than one decade its Construction quality management system is still loose and not well organized, due to this cases quality problems were observed as proved by researchers and residents criticized its quality in public media and this research also found that 33% of respondents proved the quality of AAHDPO house were unsatisfactory. Therefore these research aims to focus on assessing the quality management practices of AAHDPO Construction Projects.
This research assessed AAHDPO Quality Management Practices by taking the client, the contractor, the consultant, the Construction MSEs and the Production MSEs professionals as target group to collect data using questionnaire, interviews, focused group discussion and documents related evidences and the collected data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, with the application of SPSS 20 version and Excel software such as frequency tables, percentages, correlations and the results presented in tables, pie charts and histograms. This research identified the main causes of poor construction quality are structural contractors due to key personnel poor skill in quality management and MSEs work and during the interview part respondents recommended that construction professionals should be project executors/leaders. The impacts of poor quality leads to extension of construction periods as its weighted mean score indicates 3.88 and reduction of productivity with weighted mean score value of 3.77
