Abstract

The Depleting Reserves Of Petroleum And Environmental Issues Have Led To The Search For MoreEnvironmental-Friendly And Renewable Fuels. Biodiesel Obtained From Various Bio Sources Is OneOf The Better Alternative Fuels Due To Its Biodegradability, High Cetane Number, No SulphurEmissions And Low Volatility. Biodiesel Derived From Non-Edible Feed Stocks Such As Linseed OilAnd Others Are Reported To Be Feasible Choices For Developing Countries Including Ethiopia, WhereConsumption And Cost Of Edible Oil Is Very High. The Aim Of This Project Is To Produce Biodiesel From Linseed Oil And Test Its Performance In DieselVehicle By Blending With Diesel And Ethanol. Biodiesel Was Produced From Linseed Oil By UsingTransesterification Process. Biodiesel Was Characterized. The Blend Of B0,B10 And B10e5 WerePrepared.A Performance Test Was Conducted On Diesel Vehicle Equipped With Four Cylinder Four StrokeDiesel Engine With Diesel And Blends As Fuels. The Performance Parameters Like Wheel Power,Wheel Torque Were Measured In Full Throttle Position At In Different Gears At Different VehicleSpeeds. Brake Torque, Brake Power And Brake Specific Fuel Consumption Of The Engine WasCalculated At Different Engine Speeds. Brake Power Of B10 And B10e5 Was Observed To Be LowerBy 3.3kw And 6.25kw Receptively When Compared To Conventional Diesel Fuel, The Brake TorqueOf B10 And B10e5 Was Observed To Be Lower By 5.97nm And 11.63 Nm When Compared WithConventional Diesel Fuel And Specific Fuel Consumption Observed To Be Higher By 15.97gm/Kw HrAnd 35.27gm/Kw Hr When Compared With Conventional Diesel Fuel. Maximum Brake TorqueDecreases By 3.19% For B10 And 6.01% For B10e5 And Brake Power Decreases By 4.85% For B10And 9.19% B10e5 Were Compared To Conventional Diesel Fuel And Brake Specific FuelConsumption Is Increases With The Increase In Engine Speed. Depending On The ExperimentalObservation B10 And B10e5 Were Better At Low And Medium Vehicle Speed.
