Abstract

The purpose of this study was to assess teachers’ practice of designing English language tests at classroom level in Shirka high school.Mixed research method was used to carry out this study. The subjects of the study were ten grade tenth English language teachers. The samples were selected using comprehensive sampling technique. The data gathering tools were document analysis and semi-structured interview. The findings of the study revealed that the teachers have no common techniques that they use in designing exam items at department level, they do not use any written exam plan personally and at department level before constructing exam items and did not use proper principles to be employed when they design classroom test. The findings of the study further revealed that the teachers use multiple choices item types repeatedly than the other types of test items in their exam and almost all of the teachers did not take any training regarding test designing practice at district education offices, regional education offices and ministry of education level to update their experiences of test designing skills. Finally, recommendations were forwarded based on the major findings of the study to the teachers and concerned body to bring necessary changes on teachers test designing practice.
