Abstract
The exhaust noise pollution from Automobiles has become one of the major problems of
environment. Muffler is being employed to reduce such noise coming from vehicles exhaust
system. Day to day the noise pollution from vehicles is increasing due to ever increasing number
of vehicles on the roads. So there exists a need to improve the performance of mufflers in
attenuation of the noise emitted from vehicles exhaust system. In this thesis the functionality of
muffler being used in three wheelers vehicles (Bajaj) has been analyzed using Computational
Fluid Dynamics (CFD) method. Similarly the pressure distribution in the muffler is analyzed.
Further modification has been done on the existing muffler and detail analysis is carried out
using ANSYS software in order to improve the efficiency of the muffler. The simulation results
also verify that the assembly performance of the muffler modified is better than the base muffler.
