Abstract

Expansive Soils Have A Large Volume Change Potential When The Moisture Content Changes And Cause Foundation Damage When Wetting-Drying Cycles. Proper Application Of Soil Stabilization Methods Can Significantly Reduce The Damage That Results From Expansive Soil Problems. In An Attempt To Make These Poor Soils More Appropriate For Use In Engineering Projects, Different Stabilization Techniques Were Applicable. In This Study, The Combined Effect Of Bagasse Ash And Sisal Fiber Was Investigated. First Bagasse Ash Was Mixed With Expansive Soil In Varying Proportions Of 0%,3%,6%, And 9% The Effect Of Bagasse Ash On The Expansive Soil Was Investigated By Performing Atterberg Limit, Free Swell, Compaction, And Unconfined Compressive Strength For Un Cured And 7 Days Cured Condition. The Results Of These Test Have Shown That The Bagasse Ash Can Reduce Plasticity Index, And Free Swell, And Improves The Unconfined Compressive Strength Value On Both Uncured And 7 Days Cured Condition. Trial Mixes Showed That The Use Of 6% Bagasse Ash Gave Better Results. The Effect Of Sisal Fiber On The Bagasse Ash Stabilized Soil Was Also Investigated By Taking The Optimum Content Of Bagasse Ash (6%). The Expansive Soil Stabilized With Optimum Bagasse Ash Was Further Stabilized With 0.5 %, 1%, And 1.5% By Dry Weight Of Soil And Varying The Lengths (10mm,20mm, And 30mm). The Compaction Test And Unconfined Compressive Strength Test Were Conducted To See The Effects Of Sisal Fiber On Bagasse Ash Stabilized Expansive Soil. The Results Showed That When Increasing The Fiber Length And Fiber Content The Maximum Dry Density Decreases And The Optimum Moisture Content Increases. The Unconfined Compressive Strength Was Improved, When 6% Bagasse Ash Stabilized Soil Mixed With 1 % And 20mm Length Of Sisal Fiber. The Effect Of Bagasse Ash And Sisal Fiber On The Consolidation Characteristics Of Soil Such As Coefficient Of Consolidation, Coefficient Of Volume Compressibility, Compression And Recompression Index, And Void Ratio Of The Samples Were Studied By Varying The Percentages Of Bagasse Ash (0%,3%,6%, And 9%.) And Bagasse Ash Stabilized Soil With Different Percentages Of Sisal Fiber With Optimum Length Selected Based On Strength Value 20mm (0.5%,1%, And 1.5%). The Analysis Of Results Showed That Bagasse Ash Considerably Increases The Coefficient Of Consolidation Of The Expansive Soil Up To 6% Addition By Dry Mass Of Soil. And The Compression Index And Re-Compression Index Decreased When Soil Is Stabilized With Bagasse Ash Only And Reinforced With Sisal Fiber Up To The Addition Of 6% Bagasse Ash And 20 Mm 1% Sisal Fiber. Coefficient Of Volume Compressibility Decreases With Increasing Of Bagasse Ash Alone And Reinforcing With Sisal Fiber On The Expansive Soil. So, These Two Stabilizing Materials Can Be Used For Ground Improvement. The Combination Of Bagasse Ash And Sisal Fiber Is More Effective Than The Addition Of Bagasse Ash Alone For The Strength Improvement Of Expansive Soil And For Controlling The Consolidation Characteristics. The Combination Of 6% Bagasse Ash And 20 Mm 1% Sisal Fiber Gave A Better Result.
