Abstract

The Focus Of This Thesis Was Pointed At Exploring Cottonseed Biodiesel With Ethanol Additives In Diesel Engines. In This Work, The Methyl Ester Of Cottonseed Oil With Additives Was Investigated For Its Performance As A Diesel Engine Fuel. Fatty Acid Methyl Ester Was Produced Via Transesterification Process Using Potassium Hydroxide As A Catalyst And Purified Cottonseed Oil Which Is Extracted From The Cotton Seed Was Used. The Fuel Samples Were Prepared By Blending Cotton Seed Biodiesel With Ethanol, Diesel And Tween80 For Best Miscibility Of Ethanol With Diesel. This Blending Was For B20 Cottonseed Biodiesel In The Composition Of B20e5+1.5%Tween80, B20e10+3%Tween80 And B20e15+4.5%Tween80 And Pure Diesel Fuel Was Used For Reference Fuel. Moreover, After Preparation Of The Tested Fuels The Kinematic Viscosity, Total Acidity Density And Cloud Point Were Measured And The Measured Results Were Changed. For Instance, Kinematic Viscosity Changes In Percent Were 35.3%, 37.5% And 38.7% For B20e5+1.5%Tween80, B20e10+3%Tween80 And B20e15+4.5%Tween80 Respectively With Reference To Pure Cottonseed Biodiesel. The Performance Parameters Evaluated Were Torque, Power And Break Specific Fuel Consumption. The Results Of Experimental Investigation Of B20 Cottonseed Biodiesel With Additives Ethanol And Reagent Tween80 Were Compared With That Of Baseline Diesel And Methyl Ester For Characterization. The Results Indicate That The Power, Torque And Break Specific Fuel Consumption Percentage Variation Of Fuels With Ethanol Additives And The Power Torque Decreases As The Percentage Of Additive Increases And The Break Specific Fuel Consumption Increases With Increasing Amount Of Ethanol Additive. The Power And Torque Of Conventional Diesel Fuel Is Higher Than That Of Biodiesel Blended B20 With Additives And Its Break Specific Fuel Consumption Is Lower. Furthermore, A Diesel Engine Was Operated Successfully Using Ethyl Ester Of Cottonseed Oil And With Additive Of Ethanol Up To 15% As The Soul Fuel With Acceptable Performance.
