Abstract

Now A Days, In Ethiopia As A Result Of Increasing Urbanization And Industrialization, There Is Increased Plastic Generation. Many Types Of Plastics Have Been Generated Daily In Ethiopia And Disposed Of As Waste After Usage. Disposal Of These Wastes To The Environment Poses A Negative Impact On The Environment. To Overcome Such A Problem, Minimizing The Solid Waste Disposal By Using Waste Plastic In Bitumen Modification For Bituminous Coating WaterproofingConstruction Pavement Was An Ideal Solution. Globally, Building Construction Has Rapidly Grown Especially High Demand Is Evident In Developing Countries Because Of The High Growth Of Population And Urbanization. Consequently, Construction Inputs Such As Waterproofing Materials Are In High Demand. In This Study, Bitumen-Based Waterproofing Material Was Prepared Using Polyethylene Terephthalate And Animal Glue As Quality Enhancers. To Prepare Bituminous-Based Waterproofing Material Begins With The Collection Of Plastic Waste And Animal Glue. The Waste Plastic, Then Washed, Dried, And Cut With Various Sizes, And Mixed With 60/70 Grade Bitumen And Animal Glue. Its Performance Was Compared With Bitumen And Commercially Available Waterproofing Material. In This Regard, The Results Of Laboratory Tests (Softening Point, Ductility, Stability/Adhesiveness, Water Absorption, Penetration, Viscosity, And Ftir) Were Used For Characterization Purposes. Consequently, The Result Shows That The Addition Of Plastic Wastes Was Observed To Increase Softening Point, Viscosity, And Stability But Ductility, Penetration, And Absorption Peak Were Reduced As A Result. The Optimal Performance In Terms Of Binding Property(Optimum Stability) Was Obtained At 15% Pet By Weight Of Bitumen. This Can Enable To Recycle15 % Of Waste Plastic (Pet) That Would Have Been Used To Decrease The Impact On The Environment From Non-Biodegradable Wastes And To Enhance The Property Of Bitumen For Waterproofing Applications. Generally, In This Study, It Can Be Concluded That The Optimum Selected Formulation Of The Experiment That Shows Better Waterproofing Application Was 15%, 3%, And 82% Pet, Animal Glue, And Bitumen Respectively.
