Abstract
Physical Properties Of Soil Often Impose Limitations On Engineering Uses Of Soil. As Physical properties Of Soil Such As Strength, Compressibility, Permeability, Plasticity, Density, Grain-Size Distribution, Cohesiveness And Natural Moisture Content Are Of Great Significance Are In dictating The Usability Of Soil. Understanding These Properties And How They Change With environmental Conditions And Over Time Enables To Design Any Civil Engineering Structures. The Author Believes That It Is Self-Evident That The Criteria For A Suitable Fill Material Is That it Should Form An Embankment With Stable Side Slopes, Support Construction Traffic And provide A Surface Of Adequate Bearing Capacity On Which The Structural Layers Can Be Placed and Compacted. It Is Now Generally Accepted That In The Case Of Clay Soils All These Factor scan Be Directly Related To The Und rained Shear Strength Of The Compacted Fill. Accordingly, This Study Covers The Suitability Analysis Of Roadway Excavated Materials In-Terms Of In-Situ moisture Content Prior To Direct Use As Embankment Fill Material And Investigated Their properties Like Soil Classification, Workability/Plasticity, Consistency, Strength, And Stability aspects Of Soil Samples Collected For An Embankment Fill Of Road Construction Project.. In addition, 24 Samples (71%) Are Classified As Sensitive Soils, Indicating Potential Stability issues. The Remaining 10 Samples (29%) Are Classified As Plastic Soils, While No Samples Are over-Consolidated. In Conclusion, While The Majority Of The Soil Samples Meet The Basic project Specification Criteria, A Significant Number (71%) Are Unsuitable For Embankment fill Due To High Natural Moisture Content And Sensitivity Issues. Further Evaluation And potential Soil Treatment/Stabilization Measures May Be Required To Ensure ?The Long-Term stability And Performance Of The Embankment.
